105th birthday celebrations at Wythenshawe care homeCelebrations were in full swing at HC-One’s Ringway Mews care home in Wythenshawe, Manchester as Resident Edna Swann turned 105 years old.

Edna was born in Chorlton on 20th January 1915, just six months after World War 1 began. Edna went on to work as a secretary for Manchester City Council, learning how to use a type writer and write short hand.

In her spare time, Edna enjoyed reading, walking in the countryside and spending time with her husband Norman.

When asked what her secret is to a long and happy life, Edna said it was down to eating a healthy portion of porridge every morning.

Staff at Ringway Mews arranged a special birthday party to mark Edna’s big day, as friends, family and fellow Residents were invited to join in with the celebrations.

Ringway Mews was decorated with balloons as guests enjoyed singing and dancing along to live entertainment from a professional singer, before Edna was presented a beautiful homemade birthday cake from the kitchen staff at the home.

Heather Pickup, Home Manager at Ringway Mews, said: “At HC-One, we make every effort to ensure our Residents celebrate their special occasions in the best way possible.”

“Edna is a lovely lady and such an inspiration to the whole team at Ringway Mews, as well as her fellow Residents. It was amazing to see her face light up as her loved ones visited the home for her birthday party.”

Located on Stancliffe Road in Sharston, Ringway Mews offers short and long term care packages for older members of the community needing nursing, residential dementia and nursing dementia care.
