Celebrations were in order at HC-One’s Hodge Hill Grange care home when Resident, Margaret (Maggie) and her husband Dave celebrated 61 years of marriage together.
Their love story began in the Isle of Man, where Dave was on a holiday whilst Maggie was working as a waitress, who went on to meet Dave as she served him breakfast once he had arrived on the island. When recalling this, Dave remarked at how “the moment he saw her, it was love at first sight.”
The two separated as Maggie later returned to her home in Ireland whilst Dave returned to his home town of Ward End, Birmingham. They commuinicated with one another via letter for the nine months they were separated, before Maggie one day decided that she would be going to England.
The pair then began dating one another, before later marrying at the Corpus Christi Church on the 29th November 1958. Their family then expanded as they went on to welcome three children – Linda, Edna and Michael.
In celebration of their anniversary, the home arranged a private meal for Maggie and Dave to celebrate together in the lounge, which the pair were delighted about, remarking at how special the day was made for the two of them.
Theresa Ingram-Gettins, home manager, commented: “It’s been wonderful to help them celebrate their wedding anniversary today, it’s lovely to see them so in love with one another after so many years married.”
