Couple celebrates 60 years of marriage at Newcastle care home

Sheila and Alan Purvis celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at HC-One’s Sutherland Court care home in Fenham on Wednesday 11th December.

The couple met when they were four years old, when Sheila’s family moved into the same street as Alan’s family. They became inseparable as they grew older and they married on 11th December 1959, three days after Sheila’s 21st birthday.

To help Mr and Mrs Purvis celebrate their special day, the team organised a surprise anniversary meal for the couple in the home’s Rendezvous café, the romantic mood was set by their couple’s favourite singer, Matt Munro, as they shared a private meal together.

Both Sheila and Alan were pleased with their anniversary celebrations, Sheila commented: "It was a total surprise and I can't stop crying with happiness."
