Couple celebrates 77 years of marriage at Yarm care homeLilian and Michael Downham celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary at HC-One’s Highfield care home in Yarm in January.

The couple met when working at munitions factory during the war and married on 23rd January 1943 at the Parish Church of St Peters and St Pauls in Kettering. They went onto have one daughter, Jan and are now blessed with three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

To celebrate their special day, the couple went out for a lovely meal with their family, Lilian, who is a Resident at Highfield enjoyed getting dressed up for the occasion. When asked what they believed their secret to a long and happy marriage is, Mr and Mrs Downham agreed that it is always being considerate of each other’s feelings. 

Highfield Home Manager, Jackie Lothian said: “It was heart-warming to see Lilian and Michael celebrating their wedding anniversary, they are a lovely couple and have such a beautiful bond.”
