Durham care home welcomes ‘Year of the Rat’Residents and team members at HC-One’s St Margaret’s care home in Durham welcomed the Chinese New Year with themed arts and crafts and traditional Chinese cuisine. 

Chinese New Year, also known as the ‘Spring Festival’ is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. According to Chinese zodiac, 2020 is the ‘Year of the Rat’, with the festival lasting from January 25th to February 8th.

Residents enjoyed making beautiful decorations including lanterns and paper dragons for their Chinese New Year celebrations, on Saturday 25th January everyone enjoyed sampling a variety of traditional Chinese dishes and sharing which was of their favourite to eat.

St Margaret’s Home Manager, Katherine Swainston said: “We’re always on the lookout to find new ways for our Residents to have fun at St Margaret’s and our Chinese New Year celebrations were a huge success.”
